UBA AfriCard and Zenith Visa card has similar requirement both for obtaining and for use. The UBA AfriCard and Zenith Visa Prepaid cards are compliant with global Chip and PIN (EMV) standards for additional card security.
They are reloadable prepaid cards, the UBA Visa pre-paid card (Africard) is a debit card variant denominated in Naira, while the Zenith Visa Prepaid card are denominated in USD, GBP and Euro. The both cards are accepted globally wherever the VISA card logo is displayed.
Cards can be used on the ATMs, POS, Internet as well as for Mail Orders and Telephone Orders. The cards can be personalized with cardholder’s name or non-personalized. Cards are V by V (Verified by VISA) certified which provides additional security measures for online transactions and online account management to view transaction history and balances.
Card holders can initiate Card-to-Card transfer on UBA and Zenith Bank individual Visa Banking Online site. The card is available to both account holders and non account holders of the individual banks.
Your major benefits in using these cards are the provision of an efficient and convenient means for keeping securely BTA/PTA (Business/Personal Travel Allowances) as opposed to carrying cash.
Currency conversion is eliminated for payments goods and services in same currency as the card currency. Cardholder can choose from 3 major global currencies. Reduced cash handling risks, No credit checks, No collateral required, No Settlement, No Interest charges. Online statements are available for monitoring transactions.
The major benefit in using the UBA Visa pre-paid card which is not accruable to the Zenith Bank visa pre-paid card holder is the convenience of pre-loading and re-loading the Africard with naira denomination and the it cheaper service charges.
Steps in Obtaining both the UBA and the Zenith Visa Pre-paid Cards:
Simply walk into any UBA Bank near you and locate the customer care unit and demand for a UBA AfriCard, you may not be required to fund it immediately but you will be require to pay N500 card fee, therefore if you should at least go to the bank with N1000, with a valid ID Card (driver’s license, Nation ID card or international passport), two Passport Photograph and a copy of Utility Bill (PHCN bill).
Get the form complete or fill it accordingly and submit back to where you collected the form. While you fill the form you will see an option of if you want a non personalized card or a personalized one.
The personalized one comes with
your name embossed on the card while the non personalized one doesn’t. If you go for personalized one you will have to wait for extra days before you get your card.
For that of Zenith Bank walk into any of the branch with at least $120 and locate the customer care representative by the Customer Care desk and demand for the Visa Prepaid Card. Application form will be given to you by the customer care representative.
Complete application form, as you fill the form you will see an option asking you if you want a generic Buxz card or a personalized one. The personalized one comes with your name embossed on the card while the generic one doesn’t.
If you go for personalized one you will have to wait for extra days before you get you card. Read the terms and conditions carefully, signs and submits to Customer Service with a valid ID Card (driver’s license National ID card or international passport), two Passport Photograph and a copy of Utility Bill (e.g. PHCN bill).
Make the applicable cash payment to the Teller using the deposit slip. Take copy of your deposit slip to Customer Service for processing. Initial deposit is a minimum $120 (exclusive of card fees $20 deductable from the initial deposit)
To Activating a Visa Prepaid Card:
Wait for 24 hours from time of collection of the card for your card to be activated.
To Re-loading a Visa Prepaid Card:
Walk into any UBA branch and pick a normal deposit slip and fill in your full name that you used in obtaining the card and in the account number box enter the ten digit number on the face of you Africard that is your account number and submit to the teller with your cash your account will be credited immediately.
As for Zenith Visa pre-paid card walk into any Zenith Bank branch with your Card Number. Obtain the Prepaid deposit slip. Complete fully the Prepaid deposit slip and proceed to the teller point with your cash. Your card will be re-credited within 48 hours or less. Charge per re-load is $5.
Finally for the Africard a parcel will be giving to you containing your card, the ATM PIN, and the internet banking PIN for your online access to your account transaction history, follow the instruction immediately.
For that of Zenith prepaid visa card, a tele-banking PIN may to issue to you, if not you can apply for your tele-banking PIN to enable you have access to the Online Statement of Account of your Visa Prepaid card.
In conclusion, you can use any ATM card with the 16 digit number, expiring date, with the 3 digit security PIN (e.g. 014) at the back of the card, and the logo of either VISA or MasterCard. Use for completion of payment on any secured market place online where you see the card logo.
To get such ATM card it is very easy, if you have a bank account with out an ATM card just apply for an ATM card with either VISA or MasterCard logo and in case you don’t have an account yet just follow the process of obtaining the pre-paid card explained above it is similar to that of opening a bank account and open your bank account with any bank of your choice and tick the either the VISA or MasterCard or ask for a VISA or MasterCard then your card will be ready in maximum of 3 weeks time.
